SoftAtHome powers Orange’s new Flash Reconnection service thanks to Always’ON to keep French homes connected in the event of a fiber outage

The Livebox switches the entire house to the customer’s phone connection sharing. No app, no VPN, no additional hardware.

/PRNewswire/ — SoftAtHome, an independent publisher of software specializing in broadband, Wi-Fi, video and data analysis, today announces that its Always’ON product is at the heart of Orange’s new Flash Reconnection service, intended for its customers in France. In the event of a fiber optic line failure, the service running on the Livebox automatically switches the connection via the customer’s smartphone. All devices in the home stay connected without the need to reconfigure them.

An optical fiber outage or routine maintenance operation generally results in significant disruption for end users. The fallback usually involved using dedicated backup hardware, such as a 4G dongle or a mobile router. Always’ON allows you to delete this step. The Livebox detects the power outage, connects to the smartphone’s hotspot and continues to operate the home network. Laptops, tablets, smart TVs and connected devices continue to work, over Wi-Fi or Ethernet.

Orange has activated the remote service for customers equipped with the latest Livebox Wi-Fi 7: Livebox 7 Wi-Fi 7 and Livebox S. No hardware to ship and no loss of time linked to complex configuration.

A simple design

The customer does not need to install a mobile application, configure a VPN or depend on a dedicated server. Installation only takes a few minutes:

  1. the Livebox screen displays a QR code as soon as an outage is detected.
  2. By scanning the code, you access a short online tutorial. This guide explains how to activate your smartphone’s hotspot and set the password provided by the Livebox.
  3. The Livebox detects the nearby smartphone and connects automatically. The client does not need to choose a network name.

Once this configuration is complete, connection to the smartphone hotspot is quick in the event of a power outage. When fiber optic service is restored, the Livebox redirects traffic to the landline and automatically cuts the mobile connection.

Internet services, including video streaming applications, work over the backup connection. Services linked to the fixed network, such as Livebox fixed telephony and Orange multicast television channels, will resume as soon as the fiber optic line is restored.

Simpler and faster reconnection

“With Reconnection Flash, we are making life easier for our customers at a crucial moment by offering them a fast and autonomous solution allowing them to maintain their Internet connection in the event of an outage. This unprecedented technological advancement on the French market illustrates Orange’s commitment to strengthening the resilience of its network and offering an optimal customer experience. » Laurence Thouveny, executive vice president of customer experience at Orange

“An outage is a delicate moment during which a broadband subscriber passes judgment on their operator. Thanks to Always’ON, the home remains connected via the customer’s smartphone, and the operator remains in control of the experience. This is a true value-added service designed to work across different gateway software environments, including prpl. » Arnaud Bellivier de Prin, CEO of SoftAtHome
