Oracle Expands Autonomous AI Lakehouse With Semantic and Iceberg Capabilities

Oracle is announcing enhancements to Oracle Autonomous AI Lakehouse designed to improve business context, data access, and governance for analytics and AI workloads.

A new Business Semantic Layer will capture shared metrics, dimensions, hierarchies, and calculations in reusable analytic views. These definitions are intended to improve natural-language queries and help AI agents interpret enterprise data consistently, according to Oracle.

The company is also expanding Apache Iceberg support, enabling customers to create, populate, update, and delete Iceberg tables using SQL.

An enhanced AI Data Catalog will connect external catalogs, databases, and object storage, while enriching metadata with business meaning and lineage. Oracle said the catalog’s agentic capabilities and Business Semantic Layer will be available within the next 12 months.

Other announced enhancements include an AI-assisted Data Studio workspace, centralized access controls, query acceleration, and a Business Simulation Engine integrating Oracle Essbase for forecasting and what-if analysis.
