Electrify Europe and ZEVA Global are launching wireless intelligent battery analysis reports for the first time in the world, challenging how battery health is measured in the electric vehicle industry.
/PRNewswire/ — Millions of electric vehicle owners rely on a battery metric called State of Health (SoH) to assess the health of their battery. According to Electrify Europe and ZEVA Global, this is a growing problem.
Although widely used in the electric vehicle industry, SoH only measures remaining battery capacity, not whether a battery is balanced, developing faults, moisture ingress, or signs of premature degradation.

With the cost of a replacement battery often ranging from several thousand to tens of thousands of dollars depending on the vehicle model, battery health remains one of the biggest financial risks associated with owning an electric vehicle.
“A battery can show an acceptable SoH value while at the same time showing severe cell imbalance, moisture contamination or errors in the battery management system,” said Sven Van Passel, founder of Electrify Europe. “After years of diagnosing and repairing electric vehicle batteries, we have seen firsthand that capacity alone does not provide a complete picture.”
The issue comes at a crucial time for the electric vehicle market. Cox Automotive and JD Power report an increase in the volume of electric vehicle lease returns 185% bis 230% compared to last year, while the cost of battery replacement remains one of the biggest financial concerns for electric vehicle owners.
To address the battery transparency gap described by the companies, Electrify Europe and ZEVA Global have partnered to launch world-first wireless intelligent battery analysis reports that can remotely analyze battery health without the need for hardware installations, OBD devices, workshop appointments or battery discharge tests.
“Consumers deserve more transparency about the condition of the most expensive component in their vehicle,” said Cedric Blijweert, Managing Director of Electrify Europe. “Our intelligent battery analysis reports help owners identify potential problems earlier, better understand replacement risk and make more informed decisions throughout their vehicle’s life cycle.”
The companies believe intelligent battery analytics will become as important to EV ownership as vehicle history reports are to purchasing a used car, creating a new standard for battery transparency as the global EV fleet ages.
“The electric vehicle industry has invested heavily in helping drivers better understand range, charging and energy consumption, but battery health has largely remained a black box,” said Raymond Reid, founder of ZEVA Global. “We believe the next chapter in electric mobility is battery transparency: owners can understand the health of their battery with the same confidence they understand their fuel gauge or odometer today.”
Over-the-air battery health reports are currently available for all Tesla vehicles worldwide, with support planned for additional manufacturers in the coming year.
