This annual event is recognized as one of the most prestigious celebrations in engineering and technology, honoring highly regarded innovators whose advances in computing, communications, artificial intelligence, energy, robotics and other fields are shaping the future of how the world lives, works and connects.
“The IEEE Honors Ceremony celebrates the extraordinary achievements of people whose work pushes the boundaries of what technology can do for humanity,” said Mary Ellen Randall, president of IEEE 2026. “This year’s honorees demonstrate how engineering and technology drive significant progress in every sector and around the world, inspiring future generations to build what comes next.”
Paving the way for the next generation
The evening culminated with the delivery of the IEEE Medal of Honorthe organization’s highest award, which was awarded to Jensen Huangfounder and CEO of NVIDIA, for his pioneering leadership in accelerated computing and artificial intelligence. Huang donated the prize money, coupled with an additional donation from the Jen-Hsun and Lori Huang Foundation, to fund new graduate scholarships and IEEE TryEngineeringSTEM initiatives.
The co-founder of NVIDIA, Chris A. Malachowskyalso received the Robert N. Noyce Medal from IEEE 2026 for its pioneering parallel computing architectures and its leadership in semiconductor design. Malachowsky also donated his prize money to IEEE TryEngineering to support initiatives that help introduce engineering to school-aged children.
The intersection between technology and humanity
Bringing together some of the brightest minds in the world of technology, the event also highlights the unique role IEEE plays in bringing together disciplines and perspectives to drive breakthrough innovations and address global challenges. This year’s ceremony revolved around the theme ‘Intersections’ and featured a data-driven narrative video, commissioned and created in collaboration with information designer Giorgia Lupi and his Pentagram team, to illustrate the common paths and collaborations that connect the 2026 honorees.
Created more than a century ago, the IEEE Awards Program recognizes individuals and teams whose innovations have driven technological advancement and improved the human condition. The program includes the IEEE Medal of Honor and a number of technical medals and awards spanning engineering, computer science, and technology.
