/PRNewswire/ — At InnoTrans 2026, the world’s largest rail transportation exhibition, held from September 22 to 25, Huawei introduced Intelligent RAIL 2.0, a new generation of solutions for intelligent applications in various scenarios of the global rail industry. The launch event brought together industry associations such as the UIC (International Union of Railways) and the UITP (International Association of Public Transport), as well as customers from around the world and partners from the ecosystem to discuss the future of the industry.
President of Huawei’s Smart Rail BU, Raymond Zuo
Jean-MichelEvanghelou, director of digital systems and innovation and financial control and project delivery at UIC, explained that FRMCS will be the first step for rail operators to build a solid digital foundation. He added that AI applications will continue to be expanded and integrated into the rail industry’s core systems, making the standardization of AI applications increasingly important.
MohamedMezghani, Secretary General of UITP, and Lidia Signor, Head of Multimodal Transport at UITP, also attended the event. Lidia Signor gave a speech entitled “Global Metro AI Intelligence and Automation”, highlighting that UITP, in collaboration with the China Association of Metro (CAMET), published a research report entitled “AI-Driven Smart Rail Transport”. The report highlights how AI solutions have been used in various areas such as construction, operation and maintenance of subway systems, improving the operational efficiency and safety levels of rail transport systems.
In his keynote speech, Raymond Zuo, President of Huawei’s Smart Rail BU, pointed out that as society transitions to an era of smart technologies, more and more players are looking for ways to integrate digital and intelligent technologies into their core business processes to solve long-standing problems. Looking at the trends, infrastructure will evolve from GSM-R to FRMCS, asset and equipment maintenance will become more important, condition-based and predictive procedures will become more important, freight transport will evolve towards an end-to-end, service-oriented logistics model including multi-modal transport, passenger services will increasingly offer seamless travel experiences, and construction will increasingly use digital and intelligent technologies to increase safety and operational efficiency.
Based on innovative projects with leading global customers, Huawei has developed the “intelligent RAIL” innovation strategy. This strategy uses digital and intelligent technologies to continuously improve rail transport safety (Reliable), efficiency (Automated), integrated services (Integrated-serviced) and long-term development (Long-termed). In addition, Huawei introduced the new generation Intelligent RAIL 2.0 at the conference with 20 scenario-based solutions based on key technologies of different generations. These solutions focus on three core areas – construction, passenger and freight transportation, and plant and equipment maintenance – while addressing long-standing industry challenges and pain points. These scenario-based solutions are jointly developed by Huawei and its partners: Huawei focuses on communications and digital platforms, while the partners specialize in industry applications, creating modular and combinable solutions tailored to specific business scenarios and the needs of industry customers.
To date, Huawei has supported more than 50 major rail customers worldwide and over 300 urban rail lines, spanning a combined route of more than 180,000 kilometers. Huawei is not only a global leader in ICT products, but also a reliable partner for digital transformation in the era of intelligent technologies. Looking forward, Huawei will continue to implement its “Platform + Ecosystem” strategy and deepen industry cooperation with customers and partners around the world, more closely analyze the changing technology trends in the railway sector, and promote the close integration of cutting-edge technologies into railway applications. Through the continuous development and innovation of its solutions, Huawei aims to support global rail transport on the way to a safer, more efficient and more environmentally friendly future with intelligent technologies.
