Unlock opportunities in the European gaming market
The summit opened with welcoming remarks from Huawei leadership, who reiterated the company’s commitment to supporting its partners as the company’s international ecosystem continues to grow. Huawei then presented its business model for gaming abroad, highlighting global success stories and incentive measures that help developers achieve commercial success through diverse cooperation models.
The presentations highlighted some of the most promising growth opportunities in Europe. Huawei presented an analysis of the region’s mini-game market – an emerging “blue ocean opportunity” – as well as strategies for entering the broader European market through deeper integration. The team repeatedly highlighted Huawei’s local advantages, from established sales channels to on-site support.
The topics of data protection and compliance also played an important role, with a separate session on European regulatory requirements. Drawing on Huawei’s own experiences, the discussion explored practical approaches to meeting GDPR requirements, supported by a localized infrastructure that includes its Aspiegel subsidiary in Ireland, a localization center in Madrid and a compliance hub in Dublin.
Perspectives from partners in a changing industry
European voices had their say at an event to exchange experiences with local partners. Aurelien Lavaud from Gameloft spoke about the popularity of IPs and audience preferences in Europe, as well as how studios can develop effective IP collaboration strategies. Enrique Phan from Sphere Games examined how AI is changing game development and where this technology is heading. Andreas Mac Mahon from Flexion spoke about the redesigned, evolving app store fee models and their impact on the global game publishing market, while Patrik Jackiewicz from Challengemode gave a talk entitled “Winning Europe Market by Market: A Growth Playbook for Mobile Publishers.”
Understanding the European actor
The Summit concluded with a panel discussion featuring five top local stakeholders and key opinion leaders. The conversation gave the developers a direct insight into the preferences of European users and how players perceive different game genres, which should help studios tailor their offerings to regional tastes.
