/PRNewswire/ — Geely Farizon New Energy Commercial Vehicle Group (Geely Farizon), China’s leading new energy commercial vehicle brand, signed a strategic cooperation agreement with WeRide, a global leader in autonomous driving technology, and Kwoon Chung Bus Holdings Limited, a leading public transportation operator in Hong Kong, at the International Automotive & Supply Chain Expo 2026 (Hong Kong).
Song Zhaohuan, Vice President of Geely Farizon New Energy Commercial Vehicle Group; Li Yifan, Vice President of WeRide; and Timothy Wong, Executive Director of Kwoon Chung Bus Holdings, sign a cooperation agreement, witnessed by Mike Fan, CEO of Geely Farizon New Energy Commercial Vehicle Group; Tony Han, Founder and CEO of WeRide; and Matthew Wong, Chairman of Kwoon Chung Bus Holdings Limited.
This collaboration will co-develop a production-ready robotaxi for right-hand drive markets based on the existing factory-built GXR platform, leveraging each partner’s strengths in alternative fuel vehicle manufacturing, autonomous driving innovations and public transportation operations. With this development, Hong Kong will become the first location to introduce right-hand drive commercial robotaxi services. This marks the robotaxi industry’s shift towards true global adaptability, bringing transformative autonomous driving solutions to right-hand drive markets worldwide.
Kwoon Chung Smart Mobility, a subsidiary of Kwoon Chung Bus Holdings, has previously deployed left-hand drive robotaxi GXR vehicles in Hong Kong and obtained a pilot license for autonomous driving; Test drives are currently underway on public roads throughout the city. On this basis, the three-way alliance will further advance product development, on-road validation and operational trials specifically tailored to right-hand drive markets.
With no right-hand drive robotaxis currently available on the market, the new model is the industry’s first ground-up vehicle specifically designed to meet right-hand drive operating standards. It goes beyond a simple customization of a left-hand drive Robotaxi GXR and leverages the proven series production capabilities of the Robotaxi GXR to carry out complete in-house development, including vehicle layout, autonomous driving software and HMI design, fully adapted to regional traffic regulations, road conditions and operational requirements for right-hand drive areas. Improved core services in perception, decision-making and chassis control ensure that passengers can enjoy safe, smooth and intuitive autonomous mobility.
Hong Kong is one of the first markets for the new right-hand drive robotaxi and benefits from its highly international traffic environment and a solid regulatory framework. Together, the three companies will accelerate product validation, testing and initial commercial operations and develop a scalable and reproducible model. This model will be expanded globally to other key left-hand driving markets, including Singapore, the UK, Japan and Australia, leveraging proven local experience to support broader global expansion.
This collaboration builds on the strong partnership between Geely Farizon and WeRide in the field of series production of robotaxis and their commercial launch. In October 2024, both parties launched the Robotaxi GXR based on Geely Farizon’s SV platform, which began fully autonomous commercial operations in Beijing within four months, followed by Guangzhou in August 2025. In March this year, Geely Farizon and WeRide signed a deepened cooperation agreement to introduce a newly updated, standard pre-installed Robotaxi GXR.
