- Cognizant’s new OpenAI Frontier Capability Group brings together more than 25,000 professionals in a global OpenAI implementation organization
- Cognizant is initially scaling OpenAI across its sales and customer success departments so customers can benefit from approaches proven at the enterprise level
/PRNewswire/ — Cognizant (Nasdaq: CTSH) today announced the launch of its OpenAI Frontier Capability Group, bringing together more than 25,000 professionals focused on delivering OpenAI products – including Codex and ChatGPT – to customers. The group aims to help companies use OpenAI models in software development, customer support and daily business operations.
Access to innovative models is no longer an obstacle for many companies; what they lack are skilled professionals who know how to integrate these models into the systems on which their business is based. Cognizant has expanded this capability across the company: More than 21,000 employees have earned over 40,000 OpenAI badges, each awarded for completing learning programs on OpenAI technologies. The new group will create an organization focused on developing and operating OpenAI-powered systems for customers.
This work is expected to build on Cognizant’s “Frontier” workforce model, through which the company trains “Frontier Certified Engineers” and “Frontier Business Operators” who are certified directly by companies using the Frontier model.
Cognizant often tests new approaches in-house before rolling them out to customers. The sales and customer success teams are already using a solution based on OpenAI models to identify and develop new business opportunities. For clients, this means that the group’s work can build on methods that have already been tested at scale within a global company.
“Over the last 50 years, every shift in enterprise technology has changed who builds systems and how,” said Ravi Kumar S, CEO of Cognizant. “With Codex and ChatGPT, OpenAI is transforming both at the same time. We are leveraging more than 25,000 of our employees to drive this change in our customers’ businesses. We started with ourselves, and OpenAI is just beginning to reshape the way we sell.”
“OpenAI is helping companies fundamentally rethink the way they work – from the way they serve customers to the way they do their work,” said Dali Rajic, Chief Revenue Officer at OpenAI. “By bringing together more than 25,000 professionals in a dedicated OpenAI practice and leveraging our technology across their operations, Cognizant is helping more companies turn AI into meaningful business outcomes.”
Initial focuses
The group will initially focus on three areas: AI-native software development with Codex, application modernization and agent-based customer support. Codex forms the core of the first area and is intended to support developers in writing, testing and shipping new code. In the area of application modernization, the group will use the “Cognizant Application Modernizer”, based on OpenAI models, across the entire lifecycle – from reverse engineering of legacy mainframe code to the generation of cloud native code. Developers review every critical decision, based on Cognizant’s experience modernizing mainframe systems for more than 500 customers. In customer care, the group will deploy OpenAI models in sales, service and support, drawing on Cognizant’s experience using these models in-house.
Cognizant is already delivering results for its customers: At a global biopharmaceutical company, Cognizant partnered to develop an OpenAI-powered business assistant that unifies search, content creation, translation and approval processes in one place. It has already processed more than 5 million conversations and reduced content creation time by 60%.
Cognizant is one of a select group of “Advanced” partners in the OpenAI partner network. The Codex hackathons in India and North and South America brought together more than 12,000 participants.
