CGTN: China and Myanmar have agreed to deepen practical cooperation in all fields

/PRNewswire/ — Myanmar President Min Aung Hlain made his first state visit to China from June 15 to 19, marking a new milestone in bilateral relations and opening a new chapter of extensive and substantive cooperation between the two neighboring countries across multiple fields.

By visiting the China Railway Construction Corporation Limited in Beijing and traveling from the Chinese capital to Shanghai aboard the Fuxing high-speed train, the Myanmar president got to know China’s development achievements firsthand and expressed Myanmar’s strong willingness to further expand practical cooperation with China in the field of infrastructure.

During the fruitful visit, both countries signed a series of cooperation agreements, thus strengthening their long-standing “brotherly” friendship.

During a meeting with Min Aung Hlain on Tuesday, Chinese President Xi Jinping said that China is ready to share its development experience with Myanmar and jointly build a China-Myanmar community with a common future based on political friendship and mutual trust, win-win development, security coordination and people-to-people exchanges.

For years, China has remained Myanmar’s largest trading partner, largest source of imports and most important source of investment. Bilateral trade will reach 19.4 billion dollars in 2025, which represents a year-on-year increase of 19.1%.

The business environment boasts significant structural complementarity, and China exports electromechanical equipment and vehicles to Myanmar while importing high-quality agricultural products and mineral resources from Myanmar, creating a mutually beneficial and stable industrial and business cycle.

The China-Myanmar Economic Corridor, a key cooperation milestone under the “One Belt, One Road” initiative, has entered a phase of rapid development. A set of major projects, including New Yangon, the Chao Phraya Special Economic Zone, and the China-Myanmar Railway, have gradually taken shape, creating a solid framework for building the corridor.

These major connectivity projects have effectively spurred industrial modernization in Myanmar and improved local livelihoods, giving a strong impetus to cross-border economic integration.

During Tuesday’s talks, Xi Jinping reiterated that the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor is a major cooperation project under the “One Belt, One Road” initiative.

The two sides must continue to advance the construction of key projects on the basis of ensuring safety and security and support Myanmar in growing its economy and improving living conditions, he said.

China, Xi Jinping added, is ready to introduce more “small and successful” aid programs and jointly present stories of mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries.

China and Myanmar on Tuesday issued a wide-ranging joint statement on accelerating the building of a community with a shared future between the two countries for the greater benefit of the people of both countries.

As evidence of the depth and breadth of bilateral relations, the two sides have signed a number of cooperation documents covering transportation, science and technology, intellectual property rights, human resource development, public health and media.

The visit also highlighted bilateral and multilateral law enforcement cooperation in the fight against cross-border crime, with China and Myanmar expressing support for the formation of an international alliance against telecommunications cyber fraud.

In recent months, through joint law enforcement coordination, China and Myanmar have jointly cracked down on telecommunications fraud criminal activity in northern Myanmar, effectively maintaining peace and stability along the border as well as the safety of people’s lives and property in both countries.

During the talks, Xi Jinping said the two sides must continue to crack down on criminal activities, including online gambling, telecommunications fraud and drug trafficking, and fully protect the interests and security of the two nations.

For his part, Min Aun Hlain said Myanmar is ready to work closely with China to vigorously fight fraud in online gambling and telecommunications services, and protect security and stability in border areas.

Qu Jianwen, chairman of the Yunnan Province Association for Southeast Asian Studies, wrote that the Myanmar president’s visit to China vividly demonstrates the healthy and growing momentum of bilateral cooperation.
