/PRNewswire/ — Geely Farizon New Energy Commercial Vehicle Group (Geely Farizon), China’s leading new energy commercial vehicle brand, signed a strategic cooperation agreement with WeRide, a global leader in autonomous driving technology, and Kwoon Chung Bus Holdings Limited, a leading public transportation operator in Hong Kong, at the 2026 International Automobile and Supply Chain Exhibition (Hong Kong)
Song Zhaohuan, Vice President of Geely Farizon New Energy Commercial Vehicle Group; Li Yifan, Vice President of WeRide; and Timothy Wong, Executive Director of Kwoon Chung Bus Holdings, sign a cooperation agreement, witnessed by Mike Fan, CEO of Geely Farizon New Energy Commercial Vehicle Group; Tony Han, Founder and CEO of WeRide; and Matthew Wong, Chairman of Kwoon Chung Bus Holdings Limited.
This collaboration will enable the joint development of a mass-production robotaxi designed for right-hand drive markets, based on the existing factory-built GXR platform, leveraging their respective strengths in new energy vehicle manufacturing, autonomous driving innovation and public transportation operations. With this breakthrough, Hong Kong will be the first city to deploy commercial right-hand drive Robotaxi services, marking the Robotaxi industry’s shift to true global adaptability and bringing revolutionary autonomous mobility solutions to right-hand drive markets around the world.
Kwoon Chung Smart Mobility, a subsidiary of Kwoon Chung Bus Holdings, has already deployed left-hand drive Robotaxi GXRs in Hong Kong and obtained a trial permit for autonomous driving; road tests are already underway on the city’s public roads. On this basis, the tripartite alliance will continue product development, road testing and operational testing tailored to right-hand drive markets.
As there are currently no right-hand drive robo-taxi on the market, this new model is the first in the industry to have been completely designed from the ground up to meet right-hand drive standards. Beyond a simple adaptation of the left-hand drive Robotaxi GXR, this project leverages the proven mass production capabilities of Robotaxi GXR to carry out a completely original development, covering vehicle design, autonomous driving software and human-machine interface (HMI) design, all fully adapted to the traffic rules, road conditions and operational requirements specific to right-hand drive territories. Improving fundamental performance in perception, judgment and chassis control guarantees riders safe, smooth and intuitive autonomous mobility.
Hong Kong is among the first markets where the new right-hand drive Robotaxi will be deployed, thanks to its highly international transport environment and strong regulatory framework. Together, the three companies will accelerate product validation, testing and the launch of first commercial operations, while developing a scalable and repeatable model. This model will be rolled out in other key right-hand drive markets globally, including Singapore, the UK, Japan and Australia, leveraging proven local experience to support wider global expansion.
This collaboration builds on the strong partnership between Geely Farizon and WeRide in the field of mass production of robotaxis and their commercial deployment. In October 2024, the two parties launched the Robotaxi GXR, based on Geely Farizon’s SV platform, which began commercial operation in fully autonomous mode in Beijing within four months, and then in Guangzhou in August 2025. In March this year, Geely Farizon and WeRide signed an in-depth cooperation agreement to unveil a new and improved version of the Robotaxi GXR, pre-installed and intended to mass production.
