Segway Receives HKQAA Award, Highlighting Advances in Product Sustainability and Clean Energy

/PRNewswire/ — Segway, a global leader in mobility solutions, today announced that the company has been approved by the Hong Kong Quality Assurance Agency (HKQAA). Green and Sustainable Innovation and Technology Contribution Award receives. The award will be presented on December 17 at the HKQAA Green and Livable City Innovation & Technology Forum at the Hong Kong Science Park.

Segway Received HKQAA Award

This award highlights Segway’s continued achievements in sustainability, particularly the environmentally friendly design principles for which the Apex e-scooters are based D110 and Max S90L stand. In recent years, the company has continuously expanded its sustainable commitment to green product introduction, responsible supply chains and clean energy production to meet the growing expectations of cities, operators and end users for clean and transparent mobility offerings.

Environmentally conscious design: Our long-standing commitment to sustainable products

Segway integrated sustainability into product design and production long before industry standards took off. The S90L has had this since 2023 first life cycle analysis (LCA) in the industry and three other Segway vehicles (including the D110) have also received LCA recognition – an internationally recognized method for assessing the total environmental impact of a product from raw materials to end of life. In this way, the company shows its sustainable commitment with global standards and comprehensible environmental indicators.

The tangible sustainable progress is also reflected in the fact that Segway proactively uses recycled materials. Since 2021, Segway has been pioneering the use of recycled materials in its shareable e-scooters – a commitment that can be seen in certain models. The Apex D110, Max Plus

Green production with sustainable energy

Segway’s solar system is in operation on the roof of the production facility, providing clean electricity for self-consumption and feeding excess energy into the grid. After a year of steady growth in the share of renewable energy, between June and August 2025, more than 65% of the plant’s electricity came from green sources.

This initiative goes beyond supporting Segway’s own production, as excess clean electricity directly benefits the local community. By feeding excess electricity into the regional grid, Segway makes a measurable contribution, quantified by Green Energy Certificates (GECs) – one for every 1,000 kWh delivered. A total of 143GECs were created from June to December.

“Using green electricity in our production processes and feeding excess energy into the national grid not only shows our commitment to the environment, but also how well shared micromobility fits into the bigger picture,” said Zack Yan, deputy general manager of Segway’s commercial mobility division.

“By adding clean electricity to the national grid, we are supporting the country’s energy transition and demonstrating that micromobility is more than just transportation – it is an important building block for low-carbon, smart cities that are aligned with national and international goals.”

How Segway is building a sustainable supply chain ecosystem

Sustainability in production is never the responsibility of a single company – it depends on a completely integrated, environmentally conscious supply chain. At Segway, the implementation of environmental principles begins at the very beginning of production: all partners in the supply chain are aligned with common sustainability goals. One initiative within this collaboration is the company’s annual Supply Chain Convention, where Segway and its partners work together to drive sustainable innovation and increase product efficiency across all areas.

Beyond the annual congress, Segway has implemented a robust supply chain management and evaluation system to tighten requirements for supply chain partners. An important part of this system is a dedicated sustainability incentive mechanism built into the annual supplier audit process. This mechanism is intended to motivate partners to continuously deepen their environmental, social and governance (ESG) efforts and innovations.

The HKQAA Award is a clear confirmation that Segway wants to further expand its role as a pioneer for a greener and more responsible future for the industry. By combining sustainable design with clean energy production and a highly committed supplier network, the company shows that low-carbon mobility is scalable, reliable and ready for global use. Segway will continue to push the boundaries of sustainable micromobility.
