MTN distributes Amazon Leo for global deployment


  • MTN will be one of the first maritime resellers to distribute Amazon Leo to provide this service in key industry sectors

/PRNewswire/ — MTN, a world-class network operator and pioneer in the adoption of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite technology, has finalized an agreement to offer Amazon Leo, Amazon’s satellite internet, for maritime deployment. MTN will initially provide this service across key maritime sectors including commercial shipping, recreational boating, offshore operations, cruises and ferries.

Amazon Leo is building one of the most advanced satellite communications systems in the world. Powered by a constellation of thousands of satellites in low Earth orbit, the system will offer lower latency and higher transmission capacity than traditional geostationary satellite solutions, to enable real-time and telemetry applications, remote operations and hybrid network architectures. In the maritime sector, it will contribute to the establishment of a fast onboard Wi-Fi network, improved communications between crew members and efficient operations carried out by ships in global waters, from the North Atlantic to the South Pacific.
