China Crafted is a virtual exhibition that invites visitors to immerse themselves in the beauty of ancient Chinese artifacts from four major Chinese dynasties: Shang, Han, Tang and Song.
The multimedia product includes over 100 representative artifacts from more than 30 partner museums worldwide.
Four interactive websites and four original video productions with animations and expert interviews illuminate the complex techniques behind the artifacts and the spiritual and cultural values they contain.
China Crafted uniquely combines historical narratives with cutting-edge digital technology, creating an experience that is both educational and visually captivating.
The exhibition is divided into four areas:
“Sacred Shang” traces the ritual symbolism of Shang Dynasty jade and leads to the legendary story of Fu Hao, one of China’s earliest female generals.
“Heavenly Han” draws on the Mawangdui Han tombs to illustrate the refined lifestyle of the Han Dynasty and the philosophical pursuit of longevity reflected in lacquerware and silk.
“Treasured Tang” captures the splendor of the Tang Dynasty through exquisite gold and silverware once used at imperial banquets.
“Serene Song” focuses on the shapes and textures of Song Dynasty ceramics, interpreting the poetic sensibility and Neo-Confucian ethos they convey.
With the launch of the global digital art tour, China Crafted aims to create a dynamic cultural ecosystem that combines online and offline experiences, connecting the past with the future through innovation, elegance and narrative expression.
At the opening of the exhibition, Cai Shandi, Cultural Attaché of the Chinese Embassy in Singapore, said that the presentation of CGTN is an important milestone in the international direction of the exhibition CGTN Art Series represents.
The exhibition, he said, not only serves as a global platform to showcase outstanding traditional Chinese culture, but also as a new opportunity for cultural exchanges between China and Singapore.
In his speech, Seng Yu Jin, Director of Curation, Research and Exhibitions at the National Gallery Singapore, praised the CGTN Art Series as a convincing example of how media in the digital age can actively contribute to preserving and passing on cultural heritage.
Now in its fourth year, ART SG brings together 106 galleries and art institutions from over 30 countries and regions, attracting collectors, artists, curators, representatives of global brands, museum professionals and academia.
