CCTV+: President Xi defines main directions for the development of new quality productive forces

/PRNewswire/ — Chinese President Xi Jinping has carried out in-depth field work and inspections on the production front over the past year, highlighting breakthroughs and key directions for the development of new quality productive forces.

President Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, attaches great importance to the development of AI and has given a series of important instructions during the year.

In April 2025, the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee held a collective study session on AI development and related regulation.

During the session, Xi Jinping stressed the need to advance technological innovation, industrial development and application empowerment in the field of AI, improve regulatory systems and mechanisms, and firmly uphold the AI development and governance initiative.

Just four days after this collective study session, President Xi embarked on a journey to see for himself the advancement of AI.

During his inspection tour in Shanghai at the end of April last year, he visited the Shanghai Foundation Model Innovation Center.

“This AI initiative is part of our efforts to advance Chinese modernization, build China into a strong country, and realize the great cause of national rejuvenation. Hope lies with each of us,” President Xi said.

During an inspection visit to the Bensteel Group in Liaoning Province, northeast China, last January, Xi Jinping recalled that the steel industry constitutes a fundamental sector for the country and the nation’s real economy.

During his inspection of Luoyang Bearing Group in Luoyang city, central Henan province, in May, President Xi said modern manufacturing industry relies on strengthening science and technology.

“China has always followed the path of real economy development. From our dependence on imported matches, soap and iron to our status as the world’s leading manufacturing nation with the most comprehensive industrial categories, we have been on the right path. To truly realize China’s modernization, we must continue to strengthen the manufacturing sector and master manufacturing technologies independently,” Xi Jinping continued.

In a conversation with workers at Yangquan Valve Co. Ltd during his inspection tour in north China’s Shanxi Province in July, President Xi said the real economy and traditional industries should not be abandoned, while emphasizing the need to emphasize industrial transformation and upgrading through technological innovation.
