“It is excellent news for the development of carsharing in France that national objectives and major measures have been determined. This announcement is the recognition of carsharing as an essential service to guarantee the success of a more sustainable national mobility system, in addition to public transport and soft mobility.
The axes announced will make it possible to:
- simplify the user registration process,
- reinforce the visibility of car sharing on a daily basis,
- and accelerate the use of car-sharing services.
In existence for more than 20 years and leader in car sharing in France with nearly 120,000 users in 270 municipalities and 130 stations, the Citiz cooperative network intends to fully contribute to the implementation of these measures, in the continuity of its commitment within the national working group, the coordination of which we welcome by State services.
We will thus be able to accelerate the development of our 15 local structures – cooperatives of collective interest, Local Public Companies or boards -, in collaboration with public authorities and by adapting our action to the specificities of each territory, whether urban or rural.
Many local authorities, as well as public and parapublic companies, already entrust us with the management of their fleet, which allows them to reduce their costs while making these vehicles available to residents outside of working hours. We are therefore ready to extend this service via the experiment proposed by the State.
The potential for development of car sharing in France is immense.
It is a major lever for:
- respond to the challenges of mobility and purchasing power of households,
- contribute to the climate objectives of the territories,
- support the mobility changes of the French,
- optimize the use of public space
- and declutter cities.
The Citiz network is ready to take on the challenge of mass car sharing by continuing its action in the general interest alongside the State, local authorities, public and private companies, as well as associations. We are particularly available to candidates for municipal elections, in order to deploy this service as widely as possible from 2026.”
