10th Huawei ICT Competition Ended with Winning Students from 49 Countries and Regions and a Record 220,000 Participants


/PRNewswire/ — The 10th Huawei ICT Competition Global Final Closing and Awards Ceremony was held today in Shenzhen. This year’s competition was attended by more than 220,000 university students and faculty from more than 2,000 institutions in more than 100 countries and regions, making it the largest event in its history. After national and regional qualifiers, 177 teams from 49 countries and regions advanced to the Global Finals and received their awards.

Ritchie (Honghua) Peng, Head of Huawei ICT Strategy and Business Development Department, said in his speech at the Closing and Awards Ceremony that the competition reflects the company’s long-standing commitment to using technology for good and for sustainable social and environmental development. Peng added that the Innovation Competition demonstrates the value of learning through competition as a tool to overcome real-world challenges, and that participants in the Application and Programming Competitions stand out with their dedication, curiosity and deep interest in technical topics. It also announced that a new Ascend AI Operator Development Program will be launched in mainland China for the next event. This program is designed to help young developers engage more directly with the industry’s cutting-edge technologies through challenging task-oriented tasks.

Acting Director of the UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education and Head of the Department of Technology and Artificial Intelligence in Education. Shafika Isaacs praised the partnership between UNESCO and Huawei and congratulated the participants on their performance. He emphasized that the future of artificial intelligence depends on cooperation between governments, international organizations, academia and the business world. He also noted that UNESCO and Huawei are working collaboratively through initiatives such as AI capacity building programs in Arab countries and ICT education partnership programs in Central Asia and the Caucasus. These efforts aim to strengthen higher education and vocational training systems and develop future-ready talent. He said students participating in this year’s Huawei ICT Competition demonstrated their ability to overcome real-world challenges beyond cultural boundaries by applying new technologies, thereby demonstrating not only their creativity but also a responsible approach to technology that embodies the purpose of education.

This year, the 10th Huawei ICT Competition was held. Following the Application, Innovation and Programming Competitions, 18 distinguished teams from eight countries were awarded the Grand Prize:

  • App Competition—Network Category Grand Prize: Algerian team, Brazilian team, Nigerian team and Shenzhen Polytechnic University
  • Application Competition—Cloud Category Grand Prize: Egyptian team, Algerian team, Central South Forestry and Technology University and Kenya team
  • Application Competition—Computer Science Category Grand Prize: Egypt team, Henan Institute of Economics and Commerce, Dominican Republic team and Algerian team
  • Application Competition—Ascend AI Category Grand Prize: Shenzhen Polytechnic University
  • İnovasyon Yarışması Büyük Ödülü: Wuhan University of Technology, Ahmadu Bello University, National University of Singapore and Fujian Normal University
  • Programlama Yarışması Büyük Ödülü: Wuhan Vocational School of Software and Engineering

Special awards were also presented during the ceremony. While the Women in Technology Award was given to seven teams consisting of all women from Azerbaijan, Nigeria, Kenya, China and Bahrain; Two teams from Ghana and China won the Green Development Award. Ten students from China were granted the right to participate in the Huawei Future Business Leaders Program. The Most Valuable Trainer Award was given to 16 distinguished trainers from nine countries and regions, including Pakistan, China, Nigeria, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Brazil, Thailand and Turkey. Six teams from Egypt, Brazil, Malaysia, Poland and Pakistan won the ICT Competition Online Popularity Award.
