Wacom unveils the Wacom Art Pen 2: a new generation stylus equipped with a 360° body rotation mechanism to faithfully reproduce the gestures of digital artists.

Greater freedom of expression is offered to discerning digital artists with Wacom’s latest rotation-sensitive pen, bringing the feel of traditional tools to digital creation.

/PRNewswire/ — Wacom announces the launch of the Wacom ArtPen2, a rotation-sensitive pen designed for digital artists and creative professionals seeking precise, expressive control in their digital workflows.

Stylus rotation for expressive control

Wacom Unveils Wacom Art Pen 2: Next-Generation Pen with 360° Barrel Rotation for Digital Artists

Building on the legacy of the original Wacom ArtPen (KP701E), the new Wacom ArtPen2 still offers 360° pen body rotation and integrates this capability into Wacom’s latest ProPen3 technology line. Equipped with compatible brushes, pens and sliders, it reacts not only to pressure and tilt, but also to the angle of rotation of the pen (when used with supported software). The Wacom ArtPen2 allows artists to vary the thickness and character of their lines by simply rotating the pen in their hand, much like traditional artists do when they adjust the angle of their pencil, flat brush, marker, or calligraphy nib to achieve different expressive effects. This intuitive control allows you to experience drawing in a more natural and dynamic way, and faithfully reflects the versatility of traditional tools known to everyone.

“Artists have favored the Wacom ArtPen for years for its grip and expressive possibilities. With Wacom ArtPen2, we responded to our community’s passion for perfecting what they love by integrating this familiar experience with our latest ProPen3 technology,” said Koji Yano, senior vice president of Creative Experience at Wacom. “By integrating these capabilities into our current devices, our goal is to give creators greater freedom to bring their vision to life.”

Smart design for artists

The Wacom ArtPen2 features Wacom’s battery-free EMR technology and is equipped with three buttons, helping to streamline workflow and minimize interruptions. With up to 8192 levels of pressure sensitivity, the pen provides smooth, precise control for both delicate sketches and bold, dynamic strokes. A nib holder built into the stylus sheath stores three spare nibs so artists can quickly replace them when needed.

New tip options available for artistic sensation

Artists can choose from three types of newly developed tips designed to provide distinct drawing sensations: ArtPen2 Carbon Shaft POM Tips, ArtPen2 POM Tips and ArtPen2 Felt Tips. The pen comes with an ArtPen2 Carbon Shaft POM tip already installed. These tips are exclusive to the Wacom ArtPen2 and are not interchangeable with Wacom ProPen3 tips.

Compatibility

Based on Wacom ProPen3 stylus technology, the Wacom ArtPen2 stylus is compatible with Wacom MovinkPad Pro14, Wacom Intuos Pro (PTK470 / PTK670 / PTK870), Wacom Cintiq 16 (DTK168), Wacom Cintiq 24 (DTK246) and Wacom Cintiq 24 Touch (DTH246). Compatibility with Wacom Cintiq Pro (DTH172 / DTH227 / DTH271) will follow later.

Availability

The Wacom ArtPen2 will be available soon.

Noticed: Unlike the Wacom ProPen3, the Wacom ArtPen2 does not support interchangeable button plates, sleeves, or balancing weights to customize the pen’s grip or center of gravity.
