The Light & Electric category at the 139th Canton Fair highlights creative designs for sustainable living

/PRNewswire/ — During the 139th Canton Fair, the Light & Electric category continued to showcase how new technologies and product design are reshaping everyday scenarios, from learning spaces to public infrastructure to outdoor activities.

One of the most notable exhibits was a screenless AI tutor that brings lighting and education together in a new form. Developed by a research team led by Tsinghua University and awarded a gold medal at the International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva, the device replaces a traditional screen with a 23-inch desktop projection that allows students to write, read and interact directly on paper. A millisecond touch response makes the projected surface appear intuitive, while eye-friendly Class AA lighting, RG0 blue light protection and diffuse reflection imaging contribute to a healthier learning environment. With its own large AI model for the education sector, the device supports tutoring in multiple subjects, homework assessment and learning requirements for all grade levels. Its minimalist, integrated design and strict component standards also make it a well-thought-out combination of lighting, AI support and sophisticated product technology.

The lighting of public spaces also appeared to be further developed. A 200-watt solar street light demonstrated how municipal lighting is becoming more resilient and energy independent. Its reinforced structure and intelligent control system ensure stable lighting under extreme temperatures from -40°C to 70°C. Highly efficient solar modules and high-capacity batteries ensure year-round operation, even during long cloudy or rainy periods. Rather than serving as a passive light source, the product acts as an active node within a distributed energy infrastructure, reflecting a broader shift towards “generation, storage and supply” models in outdoor lighting.

This idea has been extended to personal use with portable solar energy products and added another creative layer. A solar-powered smart cap with audio function integrates highly efficient solar cells into its peak and converts sunlight into energy while walking, fishing or cycling. The design counteracts concerns about short battery life while offering up to 20 hours of playback time. The open acoustic structure ensures that users continue to perceive their surroundings. This makes the cap particularly suitable for outdoor sports and activities over longer periods of time.

Whether they improve learning, strengthen the reliability of public infrastructure or bring clean energy to everyday outdoor life, the products exhibited in the Light & Electric category point to a future in which lighting and energy technologies play a more integrated role in making living spaces healthier, safer and more sustainable.
