– JA SOLAR Power Talk webinar presents flagship PV project at Borussia Dortmund’s Signal IDuna Park
/PRNewswire/ — JA Solar, a trusted global partner in green energy, hosted a new edition of its Power Talk webinar series, highlighting one of Europe’s most iconic solar energy projects: the photovoltaic installation at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK, home of Borussia Dortmund.
JA SOLAR Power Talk Webinar Showcases Landmark PV Project at Borussia Dortmunds SIGNAL IDUNA PARK
Certified by RID as the world’s most powerful stadium rooftop photovoltaic system, the project marks a milestone in the integration of photovoltaic technology into large-scale urban infrastructure. More than 11,000 JA Solar all-black modules currently cover the stadium’s rooftop, producing more than 4 GWh of clean electricity per year and reducing CO₂ emissions by around 1,700 tonnes annually. The installation demonstrates how high-performance photovoltaic solutions can be implemented in iconic venues, while meeting the most rigorous architectural, security and operational requirements.
The webinar speakers reviewed the project’s journey from conception to launch, highlighting the importance of initial feasibility studies, long-term planning and close collaboration with stakeholders. They highlighted the logistical and technical challenges of working on one of the busiest stadiums in Europe, where construction had to adapt to a calendar packed with sporting and non-sporting events, strict safety regulations and variable weather conditions.
Beyond power generation, the facility represents a powerful sustainability statement. With millions of visitors and spectators each year, SIGNAL IDUNA PARK offers unrivaled visibility to showcase the energy transition and demonstrate how professional sport can actively contribute to climate goals.
For JA Solar, this project is an emblematic reference in the supply of photovoltaic solutions for complex and high-profile environments. It demonstrates the company’s ability to ensure a reliable supply of high-performance products and modules for demanding applications, opening new opportunities for photovoltaic integration in public infrastructure and sports facilities in Europe and the rest of the world.
The webinar featured contributions from Petra Zelenická, Director of Marketing and Market Research for Europe at JA Solar; Florian Demnitz, Energy Director of Borussia Dortmund; and Christoph Kielhorn, PMO project manager for Battery Development at RWE. The session was moderated by Gianluca Michieletto, director of Marketing and Social Networks at JA Solar.
