ECW announces two million USD grant for children affected by floods in Pakistan

The emergency first response grant will cover 34,483 students through a local consortium led by the Rural Support Programs Network

/PRNewswire/ –Education Cannot Wait (ECW) today announced a $2 million grant as the first emergency response to meet the education needs of children affected by the devastating monsoon floods in Pakistan.

Education assessments reveal that over 367,000 school-aged children currently lack access to education in flood-affected districts, with damage reported in over 1,800 schools.

The 12-month grant will be provided by the Rural Support Programs Network (RSPN) in partnership with a consortium of local and national organizations, including the National Rural Support Program (NRSP), Sarhad Rural Support Program (SRSP), Idara-e-Taleem-o-Aagahi (ITA) and PAGE Foundation.

“RSPN is proud to continue its partnership with Education Cannot Wait and the Government of Pakistan to ensure that every child, especially girls, internally displaced persons and children with disabilities affected by the recent floods in Sialkot, Narowal, Jhang and Swat can have access to safe, inclusive and quality learning opportunities,” says Bashir Anjum, Chief Operating Officer, RSPN. “Through this collaboration, we aim to help communities in these districts rebuild resilient education systems, restore hope and help children return to learning in safe and nurturing environments. Together, we transform dreams into opportunities and education into lasting hope for the most vulnerable. »

The grassroots response will provide vital educational support to 34,000 girls and boys in flood-affected provinces of Pakistan.

Assessments reveal that more than 367,000 school-aged children have no access to education in flood-affected districts, and more than 1,800 schools have been damaged.

ECW’s investment will restore damaged schools, create temporary learning spaces, provide inclusive and gender-responsive teaching materials, restore water and sanitation facilities and implement protection measures. These interventions are part of Pakistan’s humanitarian response plan and complement ECW’s Anticipatory Action pilot project, which had pre-deployed equipment before the floods.
